You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
それにひれ伏してはならない。それに仕えてはならない。あなたの神、主であるわたしは、ねたむ神であるから、わたしを憎むものは、父の罪を子に報いて、三四代に及ぼし、
The third commandment calls us to use the name of God in a way that is honorable and worthy of greatness of God. This is very important when we worship God. We should be very careful whenever we use God’s name, since every use of his name is an act of worship, bringing us into the presence of a holy God. First, in order to use the name of God rightly in worship, we must worship Jesus Christ. God has revealed himself through Jesus, brought us salvation through Jesus, and glorified himself through Christ, and so we must worship through the name of Christ. Second, we must use God’s name properly in public worship, thinking carefully about the words that we say when we sing and to what is going on around us, so that we will be able to worship with reverence. Last, we must be careful to use God’s name properly in private worship, dedicating our entire lives to God’s glory, in order to bring honor to his name.
